Learn how to apply the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to projects and ideas within the social dimension of sustainability

Event description

Are you a student and also think that social sustainability matters? In this workshop you get to know the Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Furthermore, you learn how to apply the SDGs to projects and ideas within the social dimension of sustainability playfully. Besides that, you get the chance to exchange with other students and representatives from Helvetas. You will also get to know current ideas and projects within the social dimension of sustainability.


 

Programme

In this two hour workshop, you will get to know the Agenda 2030 and the SDGs. You learn how to apply the SDGs to projects and ideas within the social dimension of sustainability. This enables you to categorise projects and ideas within the SDGs and see what their impact on achieving the Agenda 2030 is. In this workshop you will:

  • Get to know the Agenda 2030 and the SDGs.
  • Get to know projects of Helvetas based on the SDGs of the social dimension of sustainability.
  • Apply your knowledge by categorising (your) projects and ideas within the SDGs.
  • Also get to know current ideas and projects within the social dimension of sustainability.

The workshop will include theoretical input on the Agenda 2030 and the SDGs, but also an interactive session in groups to apply your knowledge. Current ideas and projects within the social dimension of sustainability will be presented. During and after the workshop you will have the time to network and exchange with other students and representatives from Helvetas.

Preparation

If you already have a social sustainability project or a social sustainability project idea, please bring it with you.

Facilitators

Anna van der Ploeg graduated from the University of Zurich with a Master in English and German Studies. As a former secondary school teacher for English, she is responsible for educational work in Switzerland at the Development Organisation Helvetas. Anna is passionate about and leads projects in cooperation with higher education institutions and students in the field of sustainability.

Maryam Abdulcadir graduated from the University of Bern with a Bachelor in Islamic Studies, Modern Oriental Philology and Social Anthropology. She joined Helvetas as a trainee to seek more experience in the sensitisation work of a development organisation.

Samira Rüesch is doing her teacher’s diploma at the University of Zurich while completing her MA in English and French Literature and Linguistics. She is the founder of Ideaction, a student organisation that connects sustainable ideas with student teams, aiming to launch as many impactful project groups per semester as possible.

Admission

This workshop is open to all students at Swiss higher education institutions and is free of charge.
